Brac Island, Supetar – The only places you’ll ever want to visit
Supetar, the only town which got the status of the city on the island of Brac with about 5000 inhabitants, is placed in the north of the island of Brac opposite of Split. Supetar is one of the main tourist destinations in Dalmatia, and special privilege it has from the ferry link to Split, which is in the summer months almost every hour-linked with Split, which is the heart and cultural center of Dalmatia.
The most popular historical sights are the church of the Annunciation of Mary (crkva Marijina Navješæenja) with museum, next to the church are very old mosaics. Today’s church in Supetar is built on the foundations of the basilica of St. Petar, by which this city is named.
Beautiful mausoleum is located in Supetar bay next to the cemetery, next to the mausoleum are located sarcophagi and the remains of Roman “villae rusricae”.
In the vicinity of Supetar are placed many beautiful beaches, as well as the untouched nature. There is also a great offer of accommodation in apartments and villas and in hotels which gas several that are available to tourists. For those who want active vacation there are various sports facilities for tennis, football, basketball, diving and many others.
From Supetar are organized excursions by ships to the island of Hvar, Vis and through to the mainland-to Brela, Trogir, Šibenik and Split, and u can go on trips to the marvellous natural sights on the mountain of Biokovo, rafting on the rivers, and to visit the rivers Cetina and Krka.
